Our name is derived from our primary values of supporting education in communities. Education is so important and we want to make sure education is done correctly. That is where STEMducate comes in. By combining the acronym STEM and the word “Educate”, we are advocating for a new form of education, one with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at it’s forefront, and one that will prepare students for a future beyond the classroom by teaching critical thinking and occupational skills.
In an increasingly complex world where success is determined not only by what you know, but also by what you can do with what you know, it is more critical than ever for our youth to be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to solve difficult problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of data. These are the types of skills that students acquire when they study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Throughout the 2020s, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects more than 1,000,000 STEM jobs will have been added, representing nearly 11% growth compared to less than 8% for all other industries.
All students should be educated to think thoroughly and critically in order to have the opportunity to become the next innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders capable of resolving the nation's and world's most serious challenges today and in the future. However, not enough of our youth currently have access to high-quality STEM education, and far too few students view these fields as launching pads for their careers. STEMducate desires to increase awareness, increase appeal, and increase access to STEM Education and career paths.
STEMducate was founded in January of 2019 as The Zack Okun Foundation for the Advancement of STEM. In 2021, as a result of the growing number of resources we offered, we rebranded as STEMducate, to be able to reach a larger population and make a larger difference in the world. Our goal from the beginning has been to increase access to quality STEM resources, help students get the quality education they deserve, and help prepare students for the exponentially growing number of STEM jobs available.

STEM changes lives. We want to change as many lives as possible, therefore inclusion is our #1 priority. We pledge to never discriminate against any part of our population, as every part of our population needs the skills acquired through STEM Education.
