AIM (Advancing Innovative Mindsets) Kits are one of the coolest ways to get children engaged in STEM. AIM Kits are project-based kits that are available by request for all grade levels. Each AIM Kit comes with an Interesting STEM Lesson, Practice Materials, and a Physical Project or Virtual Experience for students to complete. Each month, on the first Sunday of the month, a new AIM Kit will be released for each grade level. Our new virtual AIM Kits include all of the resources inside our AIM Kits along with a list of household materials that can be used to create the Physical Project.
This Month’s AIM Kit is a Do-It-Yourself Sundial! Sundials are an ancient way to tell time using the position of the sun in the sky.
Before the invention of the analog clock, a sundial was the only way for people to tell time. Even after the analog clock was created, a sundial was still vitally important to adjust the time of the clock accordingly since early clocks were poor at telling time.
This Month's AIM Kit is constructing bottle rockets. Bottle rockets are a fun way to explore the science behind rocketry and motion. Each launch demonstrates how forces work together and how engineers use problem-solving to make rockets stable, efficient, and powerful. Today, rockets are still at the heart of space exploration, carrying astronauts, telescopes, and rovers to explore the universe.
This months AIM Kit is all about investigating the parallax effect and an essential question: how can we find the distances to stars? Parallax occurs whenever our viewpoint to nearby and distant objects changes, leading to an apparent angular change which is different for nearby objects, relative to more distant ones.
In this AIM Kit, you will use the parallax technique to measure the length of your arm and you will become familiar with the necessary geometry.
If you are requesting an AIM Kit on behalf of a school in the contiguous United States, you may request an AIM Kit be delivered to you or download our virtual AIM Kit. If you are requesting an AIM Kit as a parent, homeschooling organization, or international school, you may download our virtual AIM Kit.
