On December 11 2024, the Desert Mountain High School Robotics and Engineering Class came together, in sponsorship with ADOT and STEMducate, to inspire students to learn about automotive technology and manufacturing by building an Electric Go Kart. This encouraged students to learn more about electrical engineering, specifically electric motor integration, battery systems, wiring, and electronics. Students learned about the control system, and they learned how mechanical, electrical, and software engineering work seamlessly together in vehicles. Students learned how to resolve conflicts between subsystems in order to optimize overall performance in the electric vehicle. Students learned to problem-solve through teamwork and creativity, as they move through stages of planning, prototyping, testing, and the final assembly of the vehicle, to create a functional, innovative, and sustainable product.
Here is a time lapse video of the Desert Mountain students building the final electric vehicle.
